New Favorite

I've been a fan since stumbling across the shop 26 Olive Street a couple weeks ago. I keep checking back regularly to see what's being added, and am never disappointed. I love the styling and photography, but what really hooked me is the regular addition of interesting and incredible goods to the shop.

Sometimes you just don't know you need something until you see that it exists...

Tutorial Tuesday: How to take a screen shot using thumbalizr

It totally amazes me the number of people who do not know how to take a screen shot so let me show you two ways! First using Thumbalizr and then how I do it just using keyboard short cuts and a photo editing program.

*You should all take note that I'm using Windows Vista and I have no idea how to do this on a Mac because I've never used one before.*

Step 1: When you have a web page that you want to take a screen shot of enter the URL in the designated area, select the "screen" button (it's default) and then click "thumb it".

Step 2: You will now see a thumbnail of your screen shot along side a bunch of links which are the different sizes you can click on to download. When you click on one of them it will open your screen shot in a new window. You can click on different ones until you get a size you want or enter a custom size.

Step 3: Once you've found a good size and opened it up in another window, place your cursor over the image/screenshot, left click and select "save image as". The default file is a PNG image but JPEG files load a lot faster so change the file name from "beta.thumbalizr.com" to "yourfilenamehere.jpeg", select the location to where you want the file saved and press "save".

Ta-Da! You now have a screen shot! That was simple wasn't it?

Okay now, it's kind of annoying to have to open Thumbalizr every time you want to take a screen shot right? and sometimes you want to take a screen shot of something that's on your computer but not a website so this comes in handy. This might be a little different depending on your keyboard (I have a laptop) but this is what I do: On your keyboard you should have a key that says "prt sc" or "print screen" key and a "fn" or "function" key. If you press both "fn" and "prt sc" keys at the same time it takes a screen shot (NOTE: you can't actually see it until you paste it somewhere). If you have a full size keyboard I believe you press the "alt" key and "prt sc" key at the same time because there is no "fn" key. Next, open a photo editing program like Paint or Photoshop where you can create a new blank document. Paste the screen shot into the blank document by pressing "ctrl + v" on your keyboard, edit > paste or however you usually paste something. You now have a screen shot that you can crop and save! If you press the F11 key it expands your browser size so you can take a bigger shot!

I hope my tutorial has helped some of you figure this out!

Market Publique

This news is a bit old, but if you haven't poked around Market Publique yet, you really should. It's a new online marketplace somewhat similar to Ebay or Etsy, but devoted entirely to vintage goods - my kind of place for sure. There are a lot of great finds to be had that way.  Whilst nosing about last night, I came across the house shop which had some pretty sweet items up for grabs. Here's a small smattering:

Do I smell a rematch in the making?

As you probably already know, I'm a huge hockey fan! I was so disappointed that the Canucks (my home team) lost to Chicago! I watched the Wings vs Hawks game yesterday and after the game I began to wonder if maybe there is a Stanley Cup Finals rematch between the Pens and Wings in the making? That would make a really good final series don't you think? I am a huge fan of Pittsburgh and was extremely disappointed at their loss last year I'd love to see them make it t the finals and win this year!

Anyways, since I've already featured my favorite handmade hockey items a few weeks ago so I thought I'd support some of the handmade shops in Pittsburgh! Here are a few of my favs!

Night Out

Here's a grouping of some of my favorite vintage picks for a night out on the town. I would definitely throw all these things on together - I like the mix of sexy and tough, or use them as mix and match items with the rest of my wardrobe. What types of things do you turn to when you head out in the evenings?

As summer approaches

and the weather starts to warm up I find myself slacking a bit in all the things I should be focusing on. It's hard not to when the sun is out and you've had 4 months of rain and wind! I have so many to-do's on my list to complete. If I didn't have one I swear all I'd do is plant myself on the couch and watch tv! I'd never get anything done. Here are some of my favorite items for helping you stay on top of your list!
