comfy cozy

The past few days have been chilly and drizzly around these parts. I find that on particularly grey days all I want to do is throw on an extra cozy layer and laze around the house. I am, however, forced to leave home at some point (grey skies or no) so it's always best if said cozy layer is also attractive. I've managed to find a few vintage gems that seem to combine the comfy and the cute with particular ease. Check it out:
Funny...I'm suddenly feeling the need for an oversized glasses collection right about now as well...

It all started with... featuring jinx1764

This week's feature is brought to you by Heather of jinx1764 in her shop you will find a range of items featuring feathers and birds. Heather specializes in making custom mementos of your favorite bird or pet from your photos and their feathers.

It all started with my parrot's molted feathers in August 2008. I decided to make a few pairs of feather earrings and sell them on ebay for fun. I sold 3 out of 4 pair in the first auction and was emailed by a lady who was outbid on a pair. She asked me if I was going to make more and then told me that people on caiqueforum.com were talking about my earrings. People I didn't even know! I joined and spoke when them and several people stated that they would love to have something made from their parrot's feathers. That's when it hit me...there's a niche market opportunity and I jumped on it. I've been an artist and crafter since I was a child but this is the first time I ever attempted to sell anything. So far I've sold over 30 items in less than 3 months; so I guess it's starting off well.

Home Inspiration: Wall Hooks

I stumbled across this lovely entryway via A Cup of Jo a little while ago and instantly fell in love. For me, the haphazard placement of hooks of various shapes and sizes creates a comfortable and cozy vibe. It's the wall hanging equivalent of messy-ing up a room just enough so that your guests feel comfortable sitting on the furniture. I've been thinking of trying to recreate this look in my own home using vintage hooks. Here are a few options that would fit the bill nicely:

Retro Lane

Feast your eyes on these fabulous finds from one of my new favorite etsy shops, Retro Lane. Each piece offered seems to have a little something special to put it a cut above the rest, and the whole shop employs a really clean and minimal aesthetic which allows the product to speak for itself. I'm literally licking my chops trying to decide what to buy first.

It all started with... featuring bellabijoujewellery

This week's feature is brought to you by Jamie of bellabijoujewellery who offers colorful handcrafted jewellery in stunning designs!

It all started when I moved in with a (now ex) boyfriend. Neither of us had ever lived with a bf/gf before, and he was the type who *really* liked his space. he was convinced I was going take him away from his "guy time". So one day I was wandering down the street and stumbled accross the most wonderfull little bead shop. From there out, I was hooked! I was spending all my spare $$, and free time, on beads and wire. Before I knew it, the love for the boyfriend died, and the love of jewellery had blossomed into a love affair. I started with no experience, no vision of owning my own business, and no idea I would become what I have!

Have you heard about Viva La Moda?

It's a brand new online magazine edited by Gilbea who you might recognize from the Etsy Finds emails. This new magazine features fashion of the handmade and vintage type but also a variety of items including bath and body, toys for kids, recipes (speaking of which, I need to try out that cookie recipe it looks simply delicious!), among other wonderful things. The magazine features some amazing photography, articles and layouts put together by a collaboration of sellers. Be sure to show your support by checking out the very first issue of Viva La Moda!

HOW TO: Set up your Google Analytics on Etsy and ArtFire

By now, most people have figured out that Etsy and ArtFire have added a Google Analytics feature for us sellers. If you haven't figured it out yet I've written a tutorial for you!

Step 1: Visit http://google.com/analytics and sign up for an account or log into your existing account.

Step 2: I already have a few accounts set up so it might be a little bit different for you. Click on "Add Website Profile". In the URL area and enter your Etsy or ArtFire address www.yourshop.etsy.com or www.yourshop.artfire.com, set your location, time and hit "finish". If they ask for your shop name type in www.yourshop.etsy.com or www.yourshop.artfire.com which ever is appropriate for the account you are setting up. (Do NOT include the http:// in the URL)

Step 3: When you are on the Tracking Code page just scroll to the bottom and hit finish you don't need this code.

Step 4: On the next page you will see a grey table with your website URL. Next to the URL should be a code that looks like UA-1234567-8 copy that code (Ctrl + C).

Step 5: For Etsy go here http://www.etsy.com/shop_analytics.php or your "Studio Stats" if you are on ArtFire and paste (Ctrl + V) the code in the designated area and save changes.

Step 6: Now you're finished setting up Google Analytics! If you look at the Overview page in Google Analytics you will see that there is a yellow symbol with an exclamation mark on it under the status column. When it turns into a green check mark then you can start viewing your stats. (It can take up to 24 hours for the stats counter to update).

My undying love for boots!

If someone were to ask me what I collected I would have to say bags and shoes. I have over 20 pairs of shoes and I can't even count how many bags I have! But seriously, how can you have too many shoes? You wear them everyday, different outfits need different shoes, and the weather changes every 5 mins (or at least it does in Vancouver) so you've definitely got to have a good selection. Especially when it comes to boots!
