By now, most people have figured out that
Etsy and
ArtFire have added a
Google Analytics feature for us sellers. If you haven't figured it out yet I've written a tutorial for you!
Step 1: Visit
http://google.com/analytics and sign up for an account or log into your existing account.
Step 2: I already have a few accounts set up so it might be a little bit different for you. Click on "Add Website Profile". In the URL area and enter your
Etsy or
ArtFire address www.yourshop.etsy.com or www.yourshop.artfire.com, set your location, time and hit "finish". If they ask for your shop name type in www.yourshop.etsy.com or www.yourshop.artfire.com which ever is appropriate for the account you are setting up. (Do NOT include the http:// in the URL)
Step 3: When you are on the Tracking Code page just scroll to the bottom and hit finish you don't need this code.
Step 4: On the next page you will see a grey table with your website URL. Next to the URL should be a code that looks like UA-1234567-8 copy that code (Ctrl + C).
Step 5: For Etsy go here
http://www.etsy.com/shop_analytics.php or your "Studio Stats" if you are on ArtFire and paste (Ctrl + V) the code in the designated area and save changes.
Step 6: Now you're finished setting up Google Analytics! If you look at the Overview page in Google Analytics you will see that there is a yellow symbol with an exclamation mark on it under the status column. When it turns into a green check mark then you can start viewing your stats. (It can take up to 24 hours for the stats counter to update).

I love Google Analytics! I've been using it on my web site for a couple years now. Haven't quite figured out what to *do* with the data, but it's fun seeing what countries visit my site and that sort of thing!
it takes me 10 times longer to set up these types of things.. I feel so dense... your blog post really helped me get my etsy set up.. I had my blog set up but didnt understand how to completely set up the etsy...thanks so much!!!!!! Lisa
