Child's Play

Every once in awhile I come across a vintage gem at the thrift shop that I have absolutely no basis for needing, but that I must have all the same. Case in point - this most adorable baby peacoat (with original weathered tags still attached!). Once I saw it, I simply could not make myself put it back on the rack.

Originally I decided that I would put it up for sale in the shop, but the more I think about it, a children's item doesn't really fit. It seems too random to be packed in among the grown girl clothing we generally offer, and I prefer shops with a cohesive aesthetic. It did get me thinking, however, that there must be shops on Etsy that do specialize in this sort of thing. So I got to searching...

For the gals:

For the guys:

Then I started thinking...if vintage children's clothing was available, vintage toys would be too. This is where the search got really fun. Many of these items, besides being well made and adorable, are just brimming with personality. They will probably get you feeling nostalgic as well. There was no way I could include all my favorites, but below are a few of my top picks for the next time you are in need of a little something for a little someone.

I suppose one must stock up on baby paraphernalia, just in case a wee one comes along...... (alright, there is no baby in sight, but these goodies are just too good to pass up, right?)

How fun. Thank you for including my little jacket in this post. I know just what you mean about not being able to leave a good find there. I always think it's my job to somehow match this great old thing with its new owner. :)
